Using a kitchen timer shaped like a pomodoro (Italian for tomato), Cirillo divided the time he spent working on a project into 25-minute intervals, with 5-minute breaks in between, in order to get more done, without interruptions.

These intervals—called pomodoros—are traditionally 25 minutes long and separated with 5 minute breaks. The technique is easy to adopt and applies to any task or project. Cirillo originally published his Pomodoro Technique manual in 2006 as a free e-book, which was downloaded more than two million times by several readers, including myself. This app is inspired by Pomodoro Technique which is a time management method developed by Francesco Cirillo.
